- To confirm that your connection
is secure, look for a ‘padlock’ icon or solid key
icon at the bottom of your browser window (figure
1).
- You can double click on the padlock to view the ‘site
certificate’ (figure 3).
- The letters ‘https’ (rather than ‘http’) located
in the URL address window at the top of your browser
also indicate that you are using a secure browser
(figure 2).

Know whether or not the information that you are
sending is secure - Explorer and Netscape users
Internet Explorer and Netscape users will notice a small
‘padlock’ in the lower right hand corner of
their web browser window. If the pad lock is "locked"
then your transmissions are encrypted and secure. If
the pad lock is open the transmission is not secure
and that means that you are either using a browser or
browser version, which does not support SSL and secure
transactions or you are on a page which is not secure.
Does secure pages take more time to download?
If all of the forms on the Internet had to be secure
then all of them would take longer to download since
a secure ordering page takes a slightly longer period
of time to download into your browser because all information
in that page encrypted and it would make people wait
longer to browse the page.
